In this chapter you will learn about the Dutch nouns. In this chapter you can learn how to use nouns and how to form them. In the subchapters you will learn about the gender of nouns, the plural, diminutives and compound nouns.
Nouns are words that describe objects, people, animals, events, places and ideas. Nouns can be used with an indefinite article ('een') or with a definite article ('de' / 'het').
Indefinite nouns are used when people talk about something in general or when people think others might not know what they are talking about.
Examples:
Definite nouns are used when people are sure that others know what they are talking about. There are no rules to determine if a word gets 'de' or 'het'.
Examples:

The Dutch language has countable nouns and uncountable nouns. Countable nouns are objects that can be counted. Uncountable nouns can't be counted or need another element to be able to count them.
For example:
The table below shows examples of countable and uncountable nouns.
Countable nouns | Example | Uncountable nouns | Example |
---|---|---|---|
Het huis (the house) | Wij bouwen twee huizen. (We build two houses.) | De liefde (the love) | Hij geeft haar veel liefde. (He gives her a lot of love) |
Het bord (the plate) | Er staat een bord op tafel. (There is a plate on the table.) | De melk (the milk) | Ik drink graag veel melk. (I like to drink a lot of milk.) |
De schoen (the shoe) | Hij heeft zes paar schoenen. (He has six pairs of shoes.) | Het geld (the money) | Wij verdienen veel geld. (We make a lot of money.) |
De bloem (the flower) | Jullie krijgen bloemen van haar. (You get flowers from her.) | De muziek (the music) | Zij luisteren de hele dag muziek. (The listen to music the enitre day.) |

I know the language on the street, but also the academic language.
My lessons are professional, friendly, fun, I always adapt the style and time of teaching to the needs of the student. I prefer students who want to see the result and are willing to work on it regularly, because the student's result is also very important to me. I also do asynchronous teaching where you study when and where you want. I send you the teaching material with a video, text and exercises and you have a week to do it. Of course you get feedback.
Are you interested in anything I offer? Do you want to study with me? Then write me a message and meet me on Teams or Google Meet. You have 15 minutes for free to get to know each other and set a goal of your own.

Hi, Mi name is Paul. I'm a certified (TEFL, ELE) teacher with over 10 years of experience in language teaching. I am actually teaching business clients and individuals.
I always try to keep the classes informal and relaxed. It's important that the students like the class, and that they feel comfortable. That results in progress, and that's exactly what we want.
The focus is on conversation (so pronunciation!) and understanding but also reading and writing are important to improve active vocabulary.
Now grammar is also important to understand the structure of a language, but I only touch grammar when needed, so that depends a lot on the level (from A1 to C2).
For lower-level students who still need some native language in class, I speak fluently Spanish, Dutch and some German and French.
The first class is free of charge, so just try it! I'm sure you'll like it.

As non-native parents it is certainly not easy to teach your children Dutch or to help with the fluency of the new language. Who wants some extra exercise for his children? I can help you with that. As their vocabulary becomes more and more extensive and their sentences become increasingly fluid, your children will get more and more self-confident. To speak well the Dutch language will surely benefit them now and later.
Do your children need some help with their homework, especially with their Dutch, then I can help with that.
Even as non-native-speaking adults, it is sometimes difficult to have enough exercise. That is why also adults who want to make progress in speaking the Dutch language are welcome here! We can practice the everyday language together.

Hello there,
I'm Eveline Debouvere, polyglot and a world citizen! It would be my pleasure to help you improving your Dutch or German language skills. Tell me what you want to learn and I'll adapt my course to your needs. As I am working as a sales person for the Scandinavian and German markets in a medium-sized company, I am able to improve my own language skills every day. Knowing the importance of learning languages in a good, but fun way makes it easier to teach myself. On top of that I've already taught different languages to different students. All of them were amazed by the way the course is adapted to their needs during the teaching process.
Do you want to find this out yourself? Please contact me!
Until then I wish you all the best!

Laura is an outstanding teacher. She is patient and clear in her explanations, with a natural ability to simplify complex & more technical problems in Dutch grammar and syntax. I appreciate her dynamic teaching style and agile adaptability to my learning progress, which allows me to improve faster and at my own pace. I would highly recommend her to all levels of people keen on learning and advancing in the language.

I have only had a few lessons with Monique so far, but I couldn’t be happier. I didn’t really believe in online teaching before, but I have been learning dutch so fast and so easily with her!
