Exercise to practice Dutch present tense (regular and irregular) 1
Fill in the correct present tense of the verbs behind in brackets. These verbs can be regular and irregular.
Remember:
- Long vowel verbs have long vowel stems.
- The stem never ends with two identical consonants, therefore, the last one will just disappear.
- The stem cannot end in v or z.
- Infinitives that end in '-iën' have a stem that ends in '-ie'.
Hij zijn eigen krachten. (overschatten) (He overestimates his own powers.)
Zij morgen jarig. (zijn, singular) (It is her birthday tomorrow.)
Wij naar de trouwerij komen. (mogen) (We are allowed to come to the wedding.)
Jij altijd uit de les gestuurd. (worden) (You are always sent out of class.)
Zij altijd de verkeerde naam te horen. (krijgen, singular) (You always get to hear the wrong name.)
Jullie al 10 jaar samen. (werken) (You have already been working together for 10 years.)
U over het behang heen. (verven) (You paint over the wallpaper.)
Zij de jas van de kapstok. (pakken, singular) (She grabs the coat of the coat rack.)
De mensen naar de bushalte. (lopen) (The people walk to the bus stop.)
Hij het lastig om niks te zeggen. (vinden) (He finds it difficult to say nothing.)

It took me a long time to find my real passion in my (work) life. After studying in two universities, graduating in two bachelors, travelling the world and working abroad for several years I realized public education is where my heart lies. I went for the third time back to the university to get my teachers degree.
I have been a classroom teacher for 5 years in Dutch primary schools before I moved 4,5 years ago abroad to Colombia where I became specifically an English teacher. I am specialized in teaching in pre-, elementary, middle (secondary) and high school. I have been teaching in all different grades and all primary subjects in English and got specialised in Teaching English as a second language. Most schools where I have been working were inspired by the philosophy of 'Vygotsky'. A philosophy and methodology I also use in my private classes.
