I am currently specializing in Spanish and German. Over the years, I have given private lessons in Italian, English, Spanish, and Japanese, with Japanese being the most requested at the moment. Regarding Japanese, I had the opportunity to teach the language at an American college with a native Japanese teacher, applying the method that they use to learn their own language. I will help you in a simple way; conversation is really important for learning a language, and a good method is even more fundamental. I am Maria. I am a teacher of modern and ancient Greek with 20 years experience. I love teaching people from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds and I strongly believe in online language teaching as a very efficient method of learning. I hold a BSc in History and Archeology and a MA in teaching Modern Greek as a foreign language, both from the University of Athens. I have a strong experience as Exams Assessor on State Exams for the «Certificate of Attainment in Greek». I am currently teaching Modern Greek as a foreign language online at Avenues, The World School in New York, as well as to foreigners living in Athens, such as Embassies members and their families.

In my courses, I emphasize the importance of communication and the practical uses of language. I consider therefore communication as the most suitable approach, because it gives a lot of emphasis on realistic situations making the learner aware of how the language actually works (that does not mean that I don't give the same importance to the grammar rules and the syntax, especially to the advanced levels).

I have a deep appreciation of different learning styles and I am able to apply the corresponding teaching method to keep my students motivated and progressing at the right pace for them.
I use various teaching materials and I have also developed my own, based on my teaching experience in various settings and my academic background.

My biggest passion are foreign languages and I have passed this passion to many of my students throughout the years. I used to teach elementary school children through non formal education methods: games in particular. Also by sharing experience through story telling.

I also have experience in teaching highschool students and youngsters. The methods are both non formal and formal education methods. When I teach in formal way, I use interactive tasks since most of the students like to acquire communication skills.

I adapt myself to a student's needs and let them suggest me what would they like to work on.

I graduated from Moscow State Linguistic University with a major in Linguistics and now I study teaching of Russian as a foreign language at Omsk State Pedagogical University.
