Adverbs are the words which express the characteristics of an action. In this lesson we will learn how to classify the adverbs, how to create them and also how to gradate the adverbs.

You will get to know the 4 groups we divide the adverbs into. These are the adverbs of:
- location (blízko = near, ďaleko = far, doma = at home etc.)
- time (teraz = now, potom = after, zajtra = tomorrow etc.)
- manner (dobre = good, zle = badly, šťastne = happily etc.)
- cause (omylom = by mistake, zámerne = with purpose, právom = by law etc.)

Creation of Slovak adverbs
Eventhough there are no exact rules on how to create the adverbs, we will introduce you the two most common ways:
- from adjectives (múdry - múdro = wisely, šťastný - šťastne = happily etc.)
- from verbs (opiť - opito = drunk, stáť - postojačky = while standing etc.)
Gradation of Slovak adverbs
You will get familiar the three ways of gradation of the adverbs:
- regular ( rýchlo - rýchlejšie - najrýchlejšie = fast - faster - the fastest)
- irregular (dobre - lepšie - najlepšie = good - better - the best)
- with a description (vpravo - viac v pravo - najviac v pravo = on the right - more on the right - the most on the right)

I am fluent in 4 foreign languages and I have sucessfuly passed C2 level exams for English and German. I have a Masters degree in foreign languages and cultures from Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia.
