Lesson outline

You will get to know when to use the present tense, what are the verb models and how to conjugate them and also how to conjugate the irregular verb to be - byť.
Here are some examples of present tense used in the sentence:
- Čítam knihu. = I read the book.
- Mama umýva okná. = Mom cleans the windows.
- Otec varí. = Dad cooks.

Slovak past tense
You will learn when to use the past tense, how to create the verbs in past tense and how to conjugate them and also how to conjugate the irregular verb to be - byť in the past tense.
Here are some examples of past tense used in the sentence:
- My sme kričali. = We shouted.
- Vy ste prišli. = You came.
- Ja som plakal. = I cried.
Slovak future tense
We will teach you when to use the future tense, how to create the perfective and imperfective verbs in future tense and how to conjugate them. You will learn how to conjugate the irregular verb to be - byť and to go - ísť in the future tense.
Here are some examples of future tense used in the sentence:
- Budem jesť. = I will be eating.
- Budete pískať. = You will be whistling.
- Navaríte. = You will cook.
Slovak perfective and imperfective verbs
In Slovak language, many verbs have two forms: perfective and imperfective. You will learn what is the difference between them, when to use them and we will provide you the list of the most used ones.
Here are some examples of perfective and imperfective verbs used in the sentence:
- Adam sa obul. (Adam put his shoes on.) - perfective
- Adam sa obúval. (Adam was putting his shoes on.) - imperfective
Slovak modal verbs
Slovak modal vebs express the will and the desire to do something. Those are: chcieť, môcť, musieť, vedieť, mať, smieť. In this lesson we will show you how to conjugate all of them.
Here are some examples of modal verbs used in the sentence:
- Dnes chcem ísť do kina. (Today I want to go to the cinema.)
- Smiem prísť neskôr? (May I come later?)
- Nemôžeš fajčiť v byte. (You can´t smoke in the apartement.)
Slovak imperative
In this lesson we will teach you when to use the Slovak imperative and how to create it. Moreover, we will show you how to make imperative from the irregular verb to be- byť.
Here are some examples of the imperative used in the sentence:
- Urobme si snehuliaka! (Let's make a snowman!)
- Kamaráti, príďte na návštevu! (Friends, come for a visit!)
- Jano, prestaň fajčiť! (Jano, stop smoking!)
Slovak active and passive participle
In this lesson we will explain the difference between the active and passive participle and we will review the basic rules about creation of these participles.
Here are some examples of the active and passive participle used in the sentence:
- Otec je pracujúci človek. (The father is a working person.) - active participle
- Čítaná kniha. (The book is being read.) - passive participle
Slovak conditionals
We will introduce you 2 forms of conditional mode in Slovak language. The one in present tense and past tense. You will learn how to create it and when to use it.
Here are some examples of the present and past conditional used in the sentence:
- Cestoval by som. (I would travel.) - present
- Bol by sa utopil. (He would have drown.) - past
Negation of verbs
We will show you how to make the negation on Slovak language. This applies to every tense and form of the verb.
You only need to prefix ne- at the beginning of the words. Here are some examples:
- hovoriť = nehovoriť
- písal = nepísal
- boli sme = neboli sme
- bol = nebol
And here are some examples in the sentences, where "behať" means run:
- Boli sme behať. ≠ Neboli sme behať.
- Išli behať. ≠ Neišli behať.
- Bola som behať. ≠ Nebola som behať.

I am fluent in 4 foreign languages and I have sucessfuly passed C2 level exams for English and German. I have a Masters degree in foreign languages and cultures from Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia.
