What our teachers offer
Expert Latinist and Hellenist
Hello, I am Alexander!
I earned my BA in Spanish and Classical Philology at the National University of Colombia. While much of my time during my degree was spent in pursuit of mastery of the Latin and Greek languages, I found when I had completed my degree that I had not reached a level of proficiency in Latin and Greek which would allow me to understand texts beyond a basic level. For this reason, I went to the Accademia Vivarium Novum in Italy for a year, where, not only did I learn to communicate and compose in Latin and Greek, but also, I achieved my goal of understanding more deeply Latin and Greek texts, discerning the intertextualities present in these works, observing the particularities of style between different periods and authors, etc.
Since then, I have dedicated myself to transmitting this knowledge: I have taught at the Accademia Vivarium Novum during their summer courses, I am a current professor in the Faculty of Theology of the Unicervantes University in Bogotá, where I teach Latin and Greek to students of all levels, and additionally, I remotely tutor students from Russia, the United States, Spain, and Italy.
In my classes, I use the Inductive-Contextual Method, which, as its name suggests, encourages students to learn a given language through contextual clues and with reference to other words in the same language. In other words, the method requires that whichever language a student wishes to acquire be the primary language of instruction. Other tools which I implement in my teaching are TPR (Total Physical Response), Storytelling, and Story-building. Put more simply, during my sessions, I have students describe paintings, videos, and songs and act out theatrical scenes from which we compose short narrations in the target language. All the materials used are based on the Danish linguist, Hans Ørberg’s, Lingua Latina per se Illustrata series of books. However, I also use materials of my own, which comprise fragments I have compiled from different periods of Latin and Greek, giving students access to a diverse array of textual matter with which to study style, poetry, history, and philosophy. Ultimately, students who have undergone this method of instruction will have acquired the tools to approach these texts with confidence. Indeed, my own experiences with this method have proven to me that this is the most effective and enjoyable way to learn Latin and Greek!

Γειά σας!
My name is Maria and my passion is to learn and teach. I believe that the best way to learn is by teaching. I have been teaching for the past twenty years, starting since I was on the first year of my first bachelor in Education and Psychology, which i graduated with distinction. Since then, I have continued studying acquiring three masters in classics, counselling and intercultural education, a second degree specializing in Latin language and I keep learning languages. I also love reasearch therefore I participate in scientific conferences publicing my own work focusing on the topic of language teaching. I read a lot of psychology books and articles, because I want to establish a genuine communication with my students. I believe that learning is a process of emancipation.
I try to apply the communicative learning method even in ancient languages, because I believe that language is an alive vehicle to immerse in the culture.
For me every student is a chalenge with a unique goal: to help them expand their horizons. Therefore, I try to employ genuine learning materials, mostly audiovisual, because I believe that learning a foreign language should assimilate to the way that chilfren acquire the language since they are born. Learning should be a joy, based on experiental learning methods.
I acknowledge that it is a chalenge. But it worths taking it! After all, there is never a loss from learning. Learning is always a gain!

Hi, guys! My name is Lucia and I would like to invite you to learn Italian with me.
I am both a native speaker and a QUALIFIED teacher, as I hold a post-graduate degree in “Teaching Italian as a second language” and a national certification as teacher of Italian to not-native speaking.
My teaching method is COMMUNICATION-oriented and involves also the study of Italian culture and grammar. Indeed, as it happens in your mother language, the knowledge of spare words is not enough to get able to speak (i.e. INTERACT!) properly and conveniently.
I’ll prepare for you all teaching materials, tailoring lessons to your needs and interests, taking advantage from both the huge number of textbooks I hold and my creativity!
I offer lessons for all levels, from absolute beginners to advanced, as well as support in preparation to certification exams (I am also qualified ad examiner for the oral part of CELI).
Do not hesitate to get in contact with me to find a suitable time-slot for your trial lesson!

I'm an international coordinator at my school, and very used to working with students and teachers from all around the world.
I'm used to online teaching.
I love having contact with people from all around the world. I used to travel a lot, but now I love to meet people from other countries either at my AirBnB or through online sessions.
I love to hear from you and teach you either Danish or English.
I have an informal way of teaching, and will work together with you to make the sessions how you prefer them.
We can use a textbook if you prefer, but I also like to read the news, small books, look at online videos and more, and to discuss and learn from that.

Hi!
My name is Mariateresa, I'm Italian and I teach English, Italian and Spanish to foreign students.
Having lived in Spain during my last year at University, I moved to the UK, where I lived for the next five years. My English at that time was quite poor and I made a living by doing various jobs.
One day, inspired by my amazing English teacher Mandy, I had an idea: why not teach my native language and Spanish to English people and other nationalities? You wouldn’t believe how fascinated people are by these languages!
It was in 2017 when I fell in love with this job. So much so that one year later I successfully attained a TESOL Certificate, to teach English as a foreign language.
Teaching allows me to fully express myself and my personal qualities, such as patience and an ability to give my full attention to other people. By giving students a space in which to express themselves without fear, I create a safe, non-judgemental environment.
When a new student contacts me I always offer them a free trial lesson, so that we can introduce ourselves and I can get to know their level, interests and needs. It's from there that I create the ensuing lessons.
I provide students with a solid grammar base, but also help them to understand the application and use of the language in everyday life. At the same time, I tailor the lesson to suit the students' main interests – such as grammar, speaking, pronunciation, writing or exam preparation. I teach students of different levels, from beginners to advanced.
Although I love teaching in-person, I have adapted myself to teaching online as well. I have also completed a Teaching English Online course offered by Cambridge University. I have to admit that it's a really effective method, plus you meet people from all over the world!
Having lived abroad for several years I know that learning a foreign language requires time, but it's also fun. By speaking in it we can express hidden parts of ourselves – it's a bit like acting!
You can also assimilate the culture from which the language evolves. It's interesting to see how we can change and develop!
My aim is to transmit to students the idea that nothing is impossible. Learning a language is challenging, but entirely achievable if you keep in mind that it's a journey made of small steps.
What is important is to establish those small objectives every day, and reach them with calm determination.
Like a tracker counts the steps that you walk, put on your “count-words tracker” and you'll be surprised at how much you have learned by the end of the day!

Ciao! My name is Giorgio, I live few kilometers away from Rome and I am a native speaking Italian tutor, certified with the DITALS Level II (Università per Stranieri di Siena).
Words, their amazing mixture of sounds and ideas, have enchanted me for as long as I can remember, along with their multiple expressive nuances and communicative potential. That is the reason why, after my philosophy degree in 2017, I started my apprenticeship in a renowned institute in Rome while volunteering in a school for immigrants. After getting my teaching certification, in 2019 I worked at an Italian language and culture center in Montpellier (France). When I came back to Italy, I continued teaching at a school and as a freelance, both face-to-face and online.
In my work I aim to teach a language that is authentic and functional to deal with the most common communicative situations for those who travel or live in Italy. How? Firstly, I only speak Italian during classes, since the beginner’s level, and I pay constant attention to pragmatic and intercultural aspects of communication. Secondly, I use all kinds of supports and I gradually introduce more complex structures and specific uses. The choice of the topics is based on the interests and needs of each student. Language is always a mean to convey culture and many people approach Italian driven by curiosity for Italian food, music, fashion, literature, lifestyle, cinema. These all are regular topics of my classes, through which I try to convey a multifaceted image of my country. I have a true passion for metalinguistic reflection and I am happy to answer to students’ questions, but I generally prefer guiding them to the autonomous discovery of grammar rules, through an inductive process. I am very patient and I always try to establish a positive environment, where errors are chances to learn and not something to be ashamed of. I believe in the importance of promoting students’ responsibility in their learning process, stimulating their commitment and valuing their learning styles. Fun and gratification are a more powerful drive than mere obligation.
I provide texts and materials to work on in class and to revise at home. In order to reach the best results in all the communicative skills, I always enrich my classes with visual support, listening activities, videos, games.
If you are looking for a relaxed and friendly environment to learn Italian, contact me for a free trial lesson! We will get to know each other and arrange the work to do together. A presto!

Giorgio is a teacher with great experience with students of different nationalities. He is experienced with both online and off-line teaching. Moreover, the lessons of Giorgio can make use of the learning materials of the students, but he also provides the materials himself. The classes are centred on practice by using tests, homework and such. He looks into the topic of the lessons, fixing the mistakes and then introducing the new topics.

Welcome! I am teacher Madi. Are you looking for a suitable teacher for your Farsi course? Please read carefully:
I have a thorough and valuable experience in teaching Farsi. I have been teaching Farsi since 2014. My strong initiative and exceptional organizational skills allow me to play a crucial role in a fast-paced teaching environment.
Besides, with the ability to simplify lesson plans and homework assignments in line with specific curriculum objectives, I believe I will immediately make a noticeable impact on your Farsi education standards and you will find my classes warm, productive and fun.
I started to work as a teacher when I was in my twenties. At that point, having neither a degree nor experience, I taught English for a few years and gained more knowledge and hands-on experience in teaching methods. Then I started teaching Persian in different online platform in 2014, and I found it fun and exciting and an eye-opening journey. Since then, I have taught over 300 students from different countries and made a truly precious background. I am still trying to gain more information on teaching tactics and helping Persian students achieve their goals.

My lesson with Mahdi was great. The speed and quality at which he adapted to my linguistic requirements was astounding. We worked through some of his original teaching material, which were always spot on to my level. And fun - he makes ample use of jokes and asks his students not only to "understand" them, but also uses them to elicit an impromptu analysis by the student of "why this was funny". This holds true as well for exercises in picture analysis and exercises in hearing. Mahdi gives enough room to experiment with the language in the "free talk" section and writes his comments and corrections live. Every single one of his written or spoken comments are invaluable to either clarify aspects of grammar or prompt his students to talk. Mahdi switches consistently and comprehensively through the different phases of a lesson without ever cutting one phase short or lingering too long -- proof of his experience and hundreds of lessons taught. He has an exceptional knowledge of Persian grammar which he however breaks down to a level his students can understand. His knowledge and his application of modern teaching methodology is impeccaple. He has also pointed me to several online resources to improve my learning experience. I'm looking forward to continuing my journey to Persian B2 and onwards with Mahdi.

Lithuanian language is one of the Baltic countries languages. Some people are travelling to Lithuania, some of them are working or studying over there. So it's really good to know how to say very simple words, as hello, how are you, good mornng, thank you, you're welcome, where, how and etc. It's necessary because the main language is Lithuanian in that country
I am lithuanian and was learning other languages. So I can understand you very well, how do you feel in foreign country without language. You want to say something, ask or express yourself, but you can't. I would like to teach you. I like helping people and I have almost 10 years experience in teaching with different age people from different countries and culturies. I think so, that we will spent very good time. Don't worry about nothing. The best thing is your desire. We have don't forget just be patiece. When we are sowing, we think about future, because in few months we can see results of our work. That helps us work little by little.
I would like to offer you lessons for beggners. In these lessons you will learn how to pronounce words, how to read. Also you will learn basic words and phrases and how to talk with another person in dialogue.

The lesson was perfectly geared to my needs. As my requirement for learning does not fit easily in any 'set course' or classroom situation, this individual approach, looking at what I need and then providing it, suits me very well indeed. I am very happy with the way in which the teaching / learning experience is going so far and would certainly recommend Niccoló.

Because of its linguistic relationship with English, Norwegian is relatively easy to learn for people with a knowledge of English. About a third of the vocabulary can be understood by everyone either immediately or after a few lessons. The grammar is simpler than in German or Dutch, for example. The best prerequisites for learning this wonderful language!
My lessons are aimed at beginners and advanced learners (A1-B2).
I practise modern language teaching methods that I learned at the Folke University in Bergen. This means:
- We learn by talking a lot to each other
- We will work with images that encourage us to speak
- We are not bothered by mistakes, but rather enjoy new words and success stories
- We learn new words, spellings, sentences and pronunciations by building on what we already know
- We take grammar seriously where it is important. We don't let it limit us
- We learn easiest when we have fun and enjoy it.
Regardless of whether you are preparing for a job interview, are thinking of emigrating or are just there to enjoy the matter: My lessons adapt to your wishes.
The first introductory lesson is free. If you book several hours at once, you will receive a discount.

I was born in Luxembourg and have lived in Bergen / Norway for over 10 years. I work as a historian in a UNESCO World Heritage Museum and am in daily contact with Scandinavian history and the Norwegian language. I originally studied Scandinavian Studies, Medieval History and Archeology in Germany and Norway. I learned Norwegian about 20 years ago and taught for several years at the University of Bonn / Germany and the Folke University in Bergen / Norway. I speak 5 languages and can also read some historical languages (including Old Norse).
These experiences will make learning Norwegian a lot easier for you. I know the pitfalls that await foreigners and which donkey bridges work well. My cultural-historical knowledge will not only give you an understanding of Norwegian culture and way of life, but will also help you in a practical way to be able to easily remember strange words and formulations at first glance and not to get lost in the thicket of countless dialects.
I am looking forward to our collaboration!

Tom
