Hi, my name is Elisa, I have a degree in languages and I teach Italian as a foreign language. Italian is my native language. My name is Marianna and I have been teaching English and Greek as second languages for more than 20 years. My studies in English Language and Literature and Translation (PhD) in England and Greece have helped me gain the necessary experience, knowledge and passion for my job. I have worked as a Cambridge Speaking Examiner, a university instructor and translator in the European Commission. I am currently teaching mainly online. I hope I can help you with your studies.

EDUCATION

I have been teaching online the Italian language for more than a year. Thanks to this experience, I have realized three things are particularly important to me: structure, flexibility and relationship! It is important to create a well-structured lesson and, at the same time, tailored to the needs of the student. Lastly, it is essential to create a calm and fun environment where the student can feel comfortable and learn while having fun! I have spent a lot of time teaching in Canada and this allows me to teach in both Italian and English. I also have a degree in Psychology and can help anyone who wants to learn more about this subject or even just the academic field in general!

TEACHING METHODS

Even though I propose a plan, the lesson is finally chosen together with the student! Generally speaking, for those who are at an INTERMEDIATE LEVEL, I propose to divide the lessons into two parts:

Part 1 = Conversation / correction of errors
Part 2 = Grammar / correction of homework

For those who are at an ADVANCED LEVEL I propose to bring a conversation topic (an article, a book, a TV series, etc.) that the student wants to talk about. I will correct your mistakes through a shared Google Document.

As mentioned before, one of my cardinal principles is FLEXIBILITY, so I'm also open to students who just want to correct homework, talk, focus only on grammar.... The lesson must be decided TOGETHER!

My learning materials depend on what lessons you require. If you are a beginner, we'll be using fun flashcards and props. I have an interactive board that I use as well as a whiteboard and playing games and checking your comprehension as we go along. Not to mention rewards and lots of fun!

For intermediate students, we can expand your basic English, learn about different pop cultures, what you are interested in, music, and social media.

If you just need basic English to shop, to use local transport or to order in a restaurant, I'll provide examples that are simple and easy to remember.

I’ve started teaching Romanian as a foreign language in 2010 at the Faculty of Letters in Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania, and my teaching approach is really friendly and focused on all your needs. I am a teacher of English with more than 20 years experience. For the last 15 years I have lived and taught English in the South East of England, but originally I come from Minsk, Belarus, so English is actually my second language. I have worked with many different nationalities and almost all age groups and taught a variety of ESOL courses at all levels, including exam preparation classes such as IELTS. I teach with a communicative and learner-centred approach, taking into account your interests, preferences and personal goals, as well as the requirements of the exam you may be working towards.

As a DELTA-qualified and experienced tutor, I am familiar with many modern teaching methods, and prefer to use a mix rather than stick to one way of teaching. Depending on your level, your needs and, of course, your wishes, I can make some lessons more structured, with pre-determined objectives, topics and language content, whereas other sessions may be more flexible and informal, so we can discuss a topic or a language problem that comes up naturally during the lesson. I encourage my students to be autonomous learners, so I will welcome your initiative as to how or what you prefer to study, but I can also completely understand it if you prefer to have lessons where the teacher decides what is right for you at this stage. Either way is an effective way of learning and together we can find out very quickly what works for you.

Whenever possible, I use authentic resources, such as online newspaper articles and BBC videos, and I often design tasks and exercises myself, to make my lessons more up-to-date and matching your particular situation. I also use materials from EFL coursebooks and language-learning websites. Whatever your level, I will always have a lot of suggestions for you as to what materials and online applications you can use to support your study in between lessons.

I will be delighted to help you learn Bulgarian. I am originally from Sofia, Bulgaria. I am passionate about languages; I am fluent in English and Spanish, Czech and Slovenian.
