Hi, you may call me Teacher Marj. I'm a TEFL certified and a licensed professional teacher major in English, with 16 years of teaching experience.
I am a native English speaker. English is also our official language aside from Filipino. I have been teaching preschoolers using English as the medium of instruction and tutoring English to all levels even to adults of varying nationalities.
I took postgraduate studies in Master of Arts in English Language and Literature, also Master of Education, major in Early Childhood Education.
I graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service from which I also learned some French, Spanish and Japanese. I also earned some units in Master of Business Administration. I had also attended various education seminars and conventions locally and abroad.
Some people's first impression on me is that I look strict and snobbish. But soon as they get to know me, they usually realize that I'm friendly, cool and fun to be. And I exude this demeanor in my classes with positive zest and cheerfulness as much as I can regardless of mood or personal problems. Thus, my students find fun, excitement and easy learning in my classes.
I find joy and a sense of fulfillment in teaching young children. Children make me smile and laugh every day. Being a part of a child's learning progress, growth and journey is a great pride and accomplishment. I believe teaching has been my calling, passion and mission in life.
I never found such joy of teaching when I was in the corporate world before for fifteen years since after graduation from college, holding managerial positions in Public Relations and Customer Service. Also, I worked as the Editor-in-Chief of English monthly newsletters of American and local companies. However, from this bountiful experience and from countless corporate seminars I had attended, I also gained a lot of knowledge and skills especially in terms of business verbal and written communications and personal interactions which I can also teach and share to adults.
Currently, aside from teaching online, I write and provide the weekly English pronunciation guide for lectors in our church where I also serve as a volunteer in the same ministry on Sundays. I love reading, writing poems, listening to music, singing, dancing, watching movies, gardening, driving, hanging out with friends or simply playing with my dogs. I'm a vegetarian and a health buff.
I also love travelling. I had been to almost all countries in Asia and in Canada. Teaching online is also like travelling as it provides the benefit of meeting people from other parts of the world and learning also about varied cultures. Teaching is also a lifetime of learning. And that's what keeps me going and excited every single day.
Looking forward to seeing you in class soon!
