Variety of engaging English lessons from an energetic native English speaker

Hello, there. My name is Ilse and I was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. I live here with my family, 2 gorgeous cats and 3 tortoises.

I am formally qualified with a National Diploma (Associate Degree) in Food Service Management from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Cape Town, South Africa, with a major in Hospitality Training. I received my Qualifi Level 5 Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) 168 hours and Teaching English Online and One-to-One specialization certification from The TEFL Academy, Ireland.

I currently hold the position of Online English Teacher with Dazao English where I have successfully taught over 3000 one-on-one English classes to Chinese speaking students aged 3 to adults, from Beginner to Advanced students. I teach Oxford Starlight, Smile Junior, PEP, Theme Class, Phonics, New Concept English, Speak Your Mind and Express Yourself, Cambridge Test of English, freetalk, and many more stimulating classes. Previously, I held the temporary contract position of online English Teacher with the Dada Freetalk Programme.

My professional career as a Human Resources Manager includes extensive teaching and mentoring experience with young adults and adults in South Africa where English is not their native language. I have also held the position of Hospitality Trainer where I developed and presented training material to unemployed individuals at a regional training center and at numerous hotels. I have also been a guest lecturer at the International Hotel School in Cape Town and Varsity College in Cape Town.

I am a mother of 2 and have been very involved in the after-school teaching of both my children at primary and high school levels. I believe that my blend of talents and experiences will enable me to become the most dedicated ESL teacher.

I would describe myself as an energetic, experienced leader with an outgoing personality and natural flair for teaching. I am an organized, self-motivated, and self-disciplined team player with a strong sense of innovation and creativity. I have a real desire to improve the lives of others by teaching English. I look forward to creating exciting and engaging lessons to motivate my students and help them to learn effectively.

My dedicated classroom space is a quiet, clutter free, well-lit office within my home. My teaching methods include video emergence by sharing movies, music and eBooks with my students, listening and reading short stories online, Total Physical Response, demonstration and role play, etc. My teaching materials include introducing items of personal/cultural interest, authentic materials, pictures and relia, ESL flashcards, a whiteboard, etc. I believe that every lesson should be a solution to a problem so I begin with the needs, interests and learning styles of my learners.

I have a real desire to improve the lives of others by teaching English. I offer classes in General English, Business English, Interview English, Conversational and Daily English, Personalised English and Kids English. I look forward to creating exciting and engaging lessons to motivate my students and empower them to learn effectively.
