Hello! My name is Mariela. I am Venezuelan, but I have lived in Brazil for a bit longer than 10 years. I have a degree in psychology, but I've always been in love with languages. So far, I am fluent in Spanish, English, Portuguese and have basic knowledge of French and German. I've always had contact with the English language and at school, I was that student who was always helping my classmates because many could not understand what the teachers explained. By this time, I began to realise that perhaps one same approach was not suitable for all kinds of minds.
A few years later, after graduating from college, I moved to Brazil and it was there that life took me back to the classroom. I gave private lessons for a while and in 2013 I started a great learning path in an English school. I worked hard to adapt to the methodology, but it was very obvious to me that no one learns in the same way, and that the teacher needs to adapt to the way the student learns. It was in 2017 that I decided to stop working in parallel with franchises, and ventured into private lessons exclusively. I started at home and soon after I decided to also try online classes. In a short time, I had many more online students than face-to-face ones, not only from Rio, but from other places in Brazil and abroad. I realised how much having classes in the comfort of your home, or at the hotel room after a meeting on a business trip, or even during your holiday, is preferred by most students. A few months ago I made the decision to work this way while doing the same things as my students, in the end no one is glued to the floor and technology allows us to be in touch from anywhere in the world, regardless of distances. I am now a traveling teacher and I dedicate myself exclusively to distance learning.
My approach is based on making the study environment a safe place where students can express doubts and make mistakes feeling comfortable, explaining the use of grammatical structures and working in a non-traditional way, especially adapting to my students' personality, difficulties, and strengths; Always with a lot of humor and empathy. My students are part of my family and have a special space in my heart.
