Hello, Everyone! My name is Eftychia (Effie), which means “Happiness” in Greek and I offer happiness to the people who would love to learn... Greek. I am a teacher in Greece with a Masters Degree in Education. I have lived in New York but am currently on a Greek island. In New York, I worked in Greek-bilingual schools while studying at Hunter College (CUNY). I used to work in the public school system in Greece but now I have the pleasure of being the Head of Studies at the Greek-American Non Profit Organization that promotes Greek culture and education. I am also currently working on my PhD in Digital Media and Communication at the Ionian University of Greece. Most of my students are Greek-American and bilingual. My life’s goal is to influence my students to learn Greek not by heart, but from the heart! Are you ready for a great journey into the depths of the Greek language and culture? I have 13 years of teaching experience in New York and in Greece, teaching Greek as a first and as a second language. I can teach Greek (A1-C2 level) depending on my students needs. I can direct you on A2 and B1 language requirement for the permanent residency/naturalisation in Greece. I am highly experienced in preparing individuals for the GCSE, ellinomatheia and regents (certificates of proficiency in Greek language). Of course every student is different so I make sure to provide a customized program for everyone wanting to learn greek, specified to your needs, while moving at your pace. My methodology is based on Constructivism which is the notion that people actively construct their own knowledge, and that reality is determined by your experiences as a learner. The major concept is that my students use their previously learned knowledge as a foundation and build on it with new things that they learn. My subject expertise is: modern Greek and Greek history, not just the basic history that is written in handbooks, but from the “inside” history. Are you ready for a joyful journey into Greek culture and language? I'm Effie, an experienced Greek teacher who believes in learning from the heart. With a personalized approach and a focus on Constructivism, let's build your knowledge together and explore the depths of Greek history, beyond what's written in handbooks. Read more

Impelled and results-driven professional, capable of working both individually and collectively, with adults and children, with proper time... management and resilience in pressure conditions, dedicated to providing my students with a tailored and engaging learning experience. Pursuing the various aspects of foreign language learning, led to the acquisition of linguistic and cultural knowledge and the desire to constantly expand my intellectual horizons. With a background in French language and literature and a master's degree in conference interpreting, I have developed a strong foundation in language and pedagogy. My teaching experience has spanned across public and private schools, and I have had the opportunity to work with both adults and children. Working as a language teacher has been a truly rewarding experience, and I am constantly seeking new ways to innovate and improve my teaching practice. In addition to my language education and teaching experience, I also completed courses in school and educational psychology during my university studies. These courses have provided me with a deep understanding of the learning process and the psychological factors that can impact student performance. By integrating this knowledge into my teaching practice, I am better able to cater to the individual needs of my students and create a supportive and encouraging learning environment. I am also able to identify potential learning barriers and adjust my teaching methods to ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to succeed. Overall, my education in school and educational psychology has been instrumental in shaping my teaching philosophy and practice, and has helped me to become a more effective and empathetic language teacher. As a language teacher, I believe in using a variety of teaching methods and learning materials to engage my students and cater to their individual learning styles. I utilize a communicative approach, which emphasizes real-life communication and interaction in the target language. This approach involves activities such as role-plays, debates, and group discussions that encourage students to use the language in a meaningful way. In addition, I incorporate multimedia materials such as videos, audio recordings, and interactive online resources to supplement traditional textbook-based learning. This allows students to engage with the language in multiple ways and provides a more dynamic and engaging learning experience. By utilizing these methods and materials, I aim to create a student-centered classroom environment that fosters active participation, collaboration, and critical thinking. Students who choose me as their teacher can expect a dynamic and engaging learning experience that caters to their individual learning needs and promotes their overall language proficiency. Read more

“Teaching is one of those rare professions that keeps your brain young, allowing you to continue your own journey as a student and a lifelong... learner” “Hello, my name is Myrsini Theodorou. I am a native Greek speaker and I teach Ancient Greek, Modern Greek and Latin. I speak fluently the Greek and English language and on a basic level the Italian and Russian language. I have studied Modern Greek and Medieval Philology at the University of Ioannina, Greece. My experience, patience and method guide and help me to respond to any of my students, regardless of age and nationality. I have already taught people of different ages and from different countries; and to be honest this is one of the main reasons that I love this profession. Travelling and learning each country’ s language and culture is one of my favourite hobbies. My belief is that only if you meet the country, you will get to understand the mentality of the language. Each student is a new challenge to me, thus one of my targets initially is to find out which teaching approach is the best for him/her. However learning a language could and should be both fun and productive. At the beginning we will deal with phonology, the sound and pronunciation of letters and their combinations. Then, we will gradually start learning vocabulary, grammar and syntax through a lot of texts. Speaking and listening are the sections I insist on the most. Of course, this procedure depends on the level of each student and his will to learn. For this reason, I always arrange a pre-lesson meeting in order to discuss about the level, the time invested and the interests of the student. I am a professional and well-organized. I teach using a wide variety of books and online material. I have patience, understanding and I always encourage my students to try more and more. Speaking and listening are the sections I insist on the most. Last but not least, I am a big fan of revision because I believe that everything repeated will be learnt at the end. My passion for the Greek language led me to create a Facebook page, Kata lexin(https://www.facebook.com/katalexin), which includes common mistakes of the language, some tips, the origin of public phrases and offers proofreading. I have been teaching Modern Greek as a second language to foreigners since 2012. So, either you want to learn Greek professionally getting the certificate either for a personal reason or if you just love learning languages and Greek is one of them, I am here and I would love to educate you and share my culture through our time together. Please feel free to contact me. You have nothing to lose. I am currently offering a free initial trial lesson(30’) for new students in order to discuss about the level, the time invested and the interests of the student.” Read more

Hello, I am Alexander! I earned my BA in Spanish and Classical Philology at the National University of Colombia. While much of my time during... my degree was spent in pursuit of mastery of the Latin and Greek languages, I found when I had completed my degree that I had not reached a level of proficiency in Latin and Greek which would allow me to understand texts beyond a basic level. For this reason, I went to the Accademia Vivarium Novum in Italy for a year, where, not only did I learn to communicate and compose in Latin and Greek, but also, I achieved my goal of understanding more deeply Latin and Greek texts, discerning the intertextualities present in these works, observing the particularities of style between different periods and authors, etc. Since then, I have dedicated myself to transmitting this knowledge: I have taught at the Accademia Vivarium Novum during their summer courses, I am a current professor in the Faculty of Theology of the Unicervantes University in Bogotá, where I teach Latin and Greek to students of all levels, and additionally, I remotely tutor students from Russia, the United States, Spain, and Italy. In my classes, I use the Inductive-Contextual Method, which, as its name suggests, encourages students to learn a given language through contextual clues and with reference to other words in the same language. In other words, the method requires that whichever language a student wishes to acquire be the primary language of instruction. Other tools which I implement in my teaching are TPR (Total Physical Response), Storytelling, and Story-building. Put more simply, during my sessions, I have students describe paintings, videos, and songs and act out theatrical scenes from which we compose short narrations in the target language. All the materials used are based on the Danish linguist, Hans Ørberg’s, Lingua Latina per se Illustrata series of books. However, I also use materials of my own, which comprise fragments I have compiled from different periods of Latin and Greek, giving students access to a diverse array of textual matter with which to study style, poetry, history, and philosophy. Ultimately, students who have undergone this method of instruction will have acquired the tools to approach these texts with confidence. Indeed, my own experiences with this method have proven to me that this is the most effective and enjoyable way to learn Latin and Greek! Venite frequentes! Ἕρρωσθε! Read more
