Hello! My name is Carmine. I was born and raised in The USA since 1962. My native tongue and accent is from Brooklyn, New York. I recently moved to Italy.
I teach here full-time and having so much fun meeting interesting and warm-hearted human beings. My interests are in bowling, Bible studies, aquariums, horses, house pets and playing word games such as Scrabble. I am TESOL/ TEFL Certified. I've traveled for many years in the Navy and always enjoyed meeting and engaging with the native folks. As a DELTA-qualified and experienced tutor, I am familiar with many modern teaching methods, and prefer to use a mix rather than stick to one way of teaching. Depending on your level, your needs and, of course, your wishes, I can make some lessons more structured, with pre-determined objectives, topics and language content, whereas other sessions may be more flexible and informal, so we can discuss a topic or a language problem that comes up naturally during the lesson. I encourage my students to be autonomous learners, so I will welcome your initiative as to how or what you prefer to study, but I can also completely understand it if you prefer to have lessons where the teacher decides what is right for you at this stage. Either way is an effective way of learning and together we can find out very quickly what works for you.

Whenever possible, I use authentic resources, such as online newspaper articles and BBC videos, and I often design tasks and exercises myself, to make my lessons more up-to-date and matching your particular situation. I also use materials from EFL coursebooks and language-learning websites. Whatever your level, I will always have a lot of suggestions for you as to what materials and online applications you can use to support your study in between lessons.

I have been working as Italian teacher for two years to migrants, for refugee centers and humanitarian corridors in Italy. I have had experience with first literacy and also I have worked with begginers and intermidiate students, who I prepared to Linguistic Certification. I have worked with single student and with groups.

My opinion is “Viva l’intercultura”, that means looking at the person’s linguistic needs. Italian lessons become a space where the cultures meet and match each other, and step by step, the student can build the Italian language. For me, the cultures exchange is very important.

I’d rather to teach with an inductive, interactive, and cooperative method, which focus on communication functions, but doesn’t forget the grammar. I use manuals, worksheets, interactive games, songs and video.

It took me a long time to find my real passion in my (work) life. After studying in two universities, graduating in two bachelors, travelling the world and working abroad for several years I realized public education is where my heart lies. I went for the third time back to the university to get my teachers degree.

I have been a classroom teacher for 5 years in Dutch primary schools before I moved 4,5 years ago abroad to Colombia where I became specifically an English teacher. I am specialized in teaching in pre-, elementary, middle (secondary) and high school. I have been teaching in all different grades and all primary subjects in English and got specialised in Teaching English as a second language. Most schools where I have been working were inspired by the philosophy of 'Vygotsky'. 
A philosophy and methodology I also use in my private classes. Therefore they are dynamic and adapted to your personal needs.

Working in the Netherlands and Colombia in education and in several countries worldwide have allowed me to gain a variety of skill sets.
