What will our lessons be like?

- MOTIVATIONAL: I can do more than just be your TEACHER, but also a COACH and a PSYCHOLOGIST concerning your studying process, and a FRIEND you will feel comfortable to talk with.
- HOLISTIC: We will develop all four skills: SPEAKING, LISTENING and READING throughout the class and you will practise WRITING during the homework. Writing is a powerful way to stop and think slowly and consciously to help you better understand the language patterns and find the vocabulary you need to express whatever you want at a relaxed pace.
We will work on PRONUNCIATION because it not only allows you to sound more natural and to be understood but to understand the foreign speech better.

My lessons are based on conversations. My method is to help you practice the language from the very beginning in spontaneous and direct conversations, using often role plays.

With books, articles, songs, and other interesting and stimulating material I will encourage conversation, develop grammar in a simpler way, and improve pronunciation.

Ciao! My name is Giorgio, I live few kilometers away from Rome and I am a native speaking Italian tutor, certified with the DITALS Level II (Università per Stranieri di Siena).
Words, their amazing mixture of sounds and ideas, have enchanted me for as long as I can remember, along with their multiple expressive nuances and communicative potential. That is the reason why, after my philosophy degree in 2017, I started my apprenticeship in a renowned institute in Rome while volunteering in a school for immigrants. After getting my teaching certification, in 2019 I worked at an Italian language and culture center in Montpellier (France). When I came back to Italy, I continued teaching at a school and as a freelance, both face-to-face and online.
In my work I aim to teach a language that is authentic and functional to deal with the most common communicative situations for those who travel or live in Italy. How? Firstly, I only speak Italian during classes, since the beginner’s level, and I pay constant attention to pragmatic and intercultural aspects of communication. Secondly, I use all kinds of supports and I gradually introduce more complex structures and specific uses. The choice of the topics is based on the interests and needs of each student. Language is always a mean to convey culture and many people approach Italian driven by curiosity for Italian food, music, fashion, literature, lifestyle, cinema. These all are regular topics of my classes, through which I try to convey a multifaceted image of my country. I have a true passion for metalinguistic reflection and I am happy to answer to students’ questions, but I generally prefer guiding them to the autonomous discovery of grammar rules, through an inductive process. I am very patient and I always try to establish a positive environment, where errors are chances to learn and not something to be ashamed of. I believe in the importance of promoting students’ responsibility in their learning process, stimulating their commitment and valuing their learning styles. My name is Laura and I am a freelance Italian teacher and translator based in Berlin.
I come from Bari - a small town in southern Italy - where I graduated in foreign languages and literature before coming to Berlin four years ago.
As a linguist and lover of the Italian language, I immediately tried teaching Italian, and I can definitely say that it was a successful idea :)

Me and my student we´ll deal with different kind of communicative situations and I´ll give them the opportunity to talk as much as he can in order to have the closest approach to the language.
During my years of teaching I noticed how often some linguistic skills are trained more than others/are preferred over others, giving less space to first and closest linguistic experience that certainly occurs with the speaking. This is the reason why my teaching method wanted to experience a change of course, that focused exactly on the student´s ability of speaking till the final analyze of the conversation from a lexical and grammatical point of view.

For the basic levels we start from the very first forms of conversation and speaking exercise, such as self presentation, describing an object or talking about one's hobbies or favourite book, with the grammar and vocabulary involved.

Once the student acquires a primary familiarity with the language, I´d let the student keep training with more speaking exercises, first with communicative situations in which we come across daily like ordering something in a bar, asking for directions or organizing a weekend out ´til he/she´ll able to express his/her opinion and to have pure and free conversation on various topics, such as nature, technology, the academic and working world, telling about his/her travels or even on actual world news.

On request I can even provide material on our funny dialectal forms, different from region to region :)

I am originally from Ecuador and hence Spanish is my native language. However, I also speak English fluently because I studied my entire undergraduate program in the UK. During my time there, I also had the chance to work in my university and my role involved working with students from all over the world on a daily basis and help them to develop new skills, engage in extracurricular activities and even helping them to find internships and work placements. I also volunteered in a university society as a Spanish teacher.

I love traveling and meeting people from all over the world (I have visited about 20 countries so far)

How will I teach you italian? By playing!
I know that studying a language by reading a grammar book and mechanically completing the attached exercises can be boring and above all does not train your mind.

Learning instead should be a pleasure, so I like to use small funny videos, songs, puzzles and so on.
I also prefer the inductive method so that you can understand how Italian works on your own and then fix the grammatical rules together.
That way you’ll learn Italian without even realizing it!

But all this depends on you and how you prefer to study. I will be very happy to adopt the method that suits your case. The most important thing is that you get your goals with pleasure!
