Bosnian /Croatian Language Teacher Nefira
Hello, my name is Nefira Masic and I’m born Bosnian. In former Yugoslavia, I earned the degree majoring in Serbian/Croatian and Bosnian language and literature and during the war in Bosnia, have thought language and literature in grades from 4th trough 8th. Upon moving to U.S.A. , I’ve completed all ESL classes and over the time , I’ve earned Associate Degree in Science, Bachelor Degree in Human Development and Master Degree in Education. I’ve been teaching in American schools in grades Pre-K and Kindergarten as a lead teacher, where I was also mentoring student - teachers from the local colleges. I am currently teaching Universal Pre-Kindergarten grade and consulting in advisory groups to support Boston Public School theme units development for the early childhood education. I am a proud recipient of the National Teacher Award for 2019 year, and was recognized as one of ten most prestigious teachers in the country . In addition to teaching early childhood education ( all subjects), I’ve been tutoring English language and literature- particularly reading and writing, as well as math , social studies and science and my students ages are from 7- 17 . However, I have never left my passion for teaching my native language ( that used to be called Serbo-Croatian language), so I connected with Bosnian non- profit organization and began teaching Bosnian and Croatian language to the children ages 5-18 at first , but now, due to the large interest, I’m also teaching adult - college level class to the American students who have Bosnian spouses, Bosnian parent/ s, or business relationships with Bosnian and Croatian, so I’m developing many different types of lessons, depending on what my students are interested in . Over the last two years, I’ve been teaching online classes that include grammar, history and culture , communication, and literature and I provide ample of resources and detailed lessons to all my students. Prior to that, I organized Bosnian /Croatian classes as well as drama sessions, recitals and different presentations- in person , in Bosnian school, in Cambridge , MA. My typical adult online class is two hour in length, and may include icebreakers such as common phrases, question- answer exercises, anecdotal notes, songs or poems for instance, while the rest of the lesson may include detailed examination of the grammar topic ( e. g. tenses, cases, types of pronouns, conjugations of nouns, etc), and then practice of each components with ample of , usually, translated exercises where my students become engaged in conversation and practice of pronouncing , building sentences and learning new vocabulary words. The classes would also include visual handouts, short videos, translated songs and poems, stories and the list of different categories, such as , for instance, family members, colors, numbers, seasons, animals, etc. Overall, I provide language learning experience across the board as I integrate different components and always accommodate my audience with what they are interested in. My lessons are also tailored based on the language level of my students, whether I’m teaching younger or older students. Currently, I’m teaching both Bosnian and Croatian students who are non- Bosnian and non- Croatian natives, and encourage them to even participate in additional activities that require them to have homework ,on which I always provide feedback. There are times that I would have lessons one on one , instead of in the groups. I also have a 20 years old daughter whom I teach Bosnian and Croatian as a second language. I consider myself a passionate, knowledgeable and professional language teacher and I’m happy to announce that most of my students achieve their goal by the end of the semester and they send me most positive feedbacks . Hello,
my name is Nina, I'm from Austria and I also lived for one year and a half in Canada. I worked there as a German Teacher for adults, so I speak German, English and French.
I also teach English for beginners and advanced beginners.
My teaching methodes are totally based on the level of my student. If somebody is already advanced, I focus on communication and pronunciation. We will arrange on a topic and talk and discuss in the lesson about it.
If my student is a beginner, I'm gonna start with the basics of the German language. (the articles, the verb "to be", the pronouns...)
The learning material is all made by myself, because I'm a German teacher, so that means, I already got lots of working sheets for many topics. I send these to my student via e-mail or put it directly on the coLanguage homepage.
I'm available from Monday to Thursday between 5pm and 08:00 pm. For the weekend it's the best to just send me a request.
Of course is a free trial lesson (it's about 20 minutes) possible.
