I am Michael Sherokee and I’m a world language educator for Italian, French and Spanish. I’ve been in my profession for about 15 years and I formerly work for the Department of Defense as an overseas educator. I work with a very broad student dynamic so I am used to teaching student from all different walks of life and with different personalities. My current job for the past 8 years has really allowed me become very immersed with online instruction due to the fact my student travel a lot and most of the time are not even in my classroom. Technology driven education I have is an absolute necessity for effective 21st century instruction and communication.
When it comes to languages, the world has become so much more interconnected but I have found that a lot my kids, they want to be able to communicate without being dependent on online translators and things Google or at least minimally have a working knowledge of other languages and cultures while technology as venue. I work to inspire my students to ask questions and also to reflect on some of the questions that we deal with…like, A general question that you can use Facebook or Instagram but how many of your friends but how many of your friends can you DM in their language or do you about any upcoming events in the places where they live? Do you know what some of the preferences are for food, music, fun, leisure activities, reading, games for where they are from. If you don’t then you need to make it your business, otherwise what would you have to talk about? So many people may know a lot things about the U.S., but isn’t equally important that you know something about other people and where they come from? Otherwise, if your friends, how will you ever connect to them as person? That’s really what communication is about in the first place, connecting with people.

My name is Nora and I am born and raised in Sweden and have lived most of my life within Sweden. I love cats and my interests are reading books, swimming and travelling.
I have a bachelor in social work and have worked in both Swedish and English speaking environments. For instance as a school counselor in an English speaking high school and as an English teacher in Cape Town in South Africa for kids.

After training as a pastry chef and studying business administration, I traveled a lot and discovered my interest in languages. To find out more about teaching languages, I decided on further training at the Goethe Institute and completed it. During the Goethe Institute "Learn to teach German" course I was able to give individual language lessons and actively support the examination preparation for the Goethe certificate.

I am a certified English/Arabic/French/Italian teacher with two degrees in Interpreting and Translation and three Cambridge Teacher Trainings (TEFL, TESOL, CELTA). I am currently enrolled in the DELTA program (Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) which is the highest English teacher training worldwide recognized.
At the beginning of my classes, it is important to evaluate students' needs and aims and in order to do that, I will send a "needs' analysis" so that I can better help you with your learning.
I mainly use Zoom as teaching platform because I think it is much better than Skype or Microsoft Teams because it allows a much better student-teacher interaction pattern.
According to Steven Krashen, one of the most renown linguist and education experts: "The best methods are therefore those that supply 'comprehensible input' in low anxiety situations, containing messages that students really want to hear. These methods do not force early production in the second language but allow students to produce when they are 'ready', recognizing that improvement comes from supplying communicative and comprehensible input, and not from forcing and correcting production".
Personally, I think that this is the right approach to teach because as a teacher we need to create a safe environment for our students, lower their effective filter so they can perform at their best potential.
I realized after years of experience as a languages student and teacher that several countries not just my country (Italy) have been using a teaching methodology which is obsolete and not suitable for students' needs and aims. The 80-20 rule is the sure way to achieve this goal. Can you guess which part is the student's one? The 80 of course, you are the one who needs to improve, to talk and learn. We as teachers we are doing whatever it takes to guide you through the process.
During my experience as a teacher I worked with teenagers, university students and adults. I had the pleasure to teach Arabic to university students who needed further assistance for their exams. I taught to adults’ businessmen who needed to learn the basis of Arabic because of their work. I taught French and English to teenagers and university students that needed further help with their exams or simply to improve their listening and speaking skills.
