If you are trying to learn Swedish adverbs this short course will give you the right explanation and guidelines about the different types of adverbs. This course will help you develop and improve your Swedish grammar as well as vocabulary. Try and concentrate and watch out for the patterns that occur each time the word changes position. Now it’s time for you to sit up and enjoy the lesson!
Displayed below are Swedish adverbs and their meaning in English for you to have a clear understanding. Adverbs are part of speech; they are words which change any part of language other than a noun. They modify verbs, adjectives, numbers, sentences and other adverbs.
Swedish Adverbs | English Adverbs |
När? | When? |
Var? | Where? |
Vart? | Where to? |
Varifrån? | From where? |
Hur? | How |
Varför? | Why? |
Don't get confused with ''var'' and ''vart'', you only use ''vart'' when the verb in the question indicates moving, i.e. ''åka'' (go) or ''komma'' (come) or ''springa'' (run).
The questions is where are adverbs placed? questions adverbs are of course placed in the begining of the sentence when it's a direct question. Here is an example;
Below is a list of adverbs that are used for time, place, manner and frequency, try and memorise as many as you can, this is very important because it will help you add additional words in your Swedish voocabulary.

Swedish Adverbs | English Adverbs |
Adverbs of time | |
i dag | today |
i går | yersterday |
i morgon | tomorrow |
i natt | last night |
i morse | this morning |
nu | now |
senare | later |
i kväll | tonight |
just nu | right now |
nästa månad | next month |
nästa vecka | next week |
redan | already |
nyligen | recently |
snart | soon |
omedelbart | immediately |
ännu | yet |
förr/förut | ago |
förra året | last year |
Here are examples of possible sentences:
Looking back at the examples, these adverbs can either be placed at the start of at the end of a sentence just like below. Keep in mind that adverbs of time will always be at the front of the sentence, this should help you see the difference.
Swedish adverbs | English adverbs |
Adverbs of place | |
här | here |
där | there |
överallt | everywhere |
var som heist | anywhere |
hem | home |
ut | out |
bort | away |
Here are examples of possible sentences.
Swedish Adverbs | English Adverbs |
Adverbs of Frequency | |
alltid | always |
ofta | frequently |
vanligen | usually |
ibland | sometimes |
emellanåt | occasionally |
sällan | rarely |
aldrig | never |
Now it get's more complicated, some of the adverbs that express how often something happens (frequency) are more flexible in terms of where we can place them. For example many of them can be put in the sentences adverb position. Below are a few examples:
Some adverbs are more tricky than others, alltid (always) and aldrig (never). They seem like sentences adverb because they are placed in the sentence adverb position. Have a look at this:
Do you know how to tell if an adverb is a ''sentence adverb''? well it's very simple, they are just adverbs which get to change the mood of the whole sentence. Let's have a look at it in more details.
Adverbs have a very important role in the Swedish language they will help you contruct sentences the right way and expand your vocabulary. Once you are done with learning and understanding them, go and check the rest of the Swedish course for beginners.

Hello!
My name is Nora and I am born and raised in Sweden and have lived most of my life within Sweden. I love cats and my interests are reading books, swimming and travelling.
I have a bachelor in social work and have worked in both Swedish and English speaking environments. For instance as a school counselor in an English speaking high school and as an English teacher in Cape Town in South Africa for kids.
I am studying Spanish myself at the moment and I know how hard it can be in the beginning with a new language. I also know how much fun it can be when you start to actually be able to communicate in your new language. I believe every new language you learn is going to expand your way of thinking and make you grow!
I can offer both teaching for absolute beginners in Swedish, but also if you want to develop the language skills you already have. I offer a free trial lesson.
If you want to know more about me or the learning process, feel free to contact me!
Have a nice day!
/Nora

Hello everyone, I am Giulia and I am Italian.
All of my education has been gravitating towards languages, not only because of my strong desire to communicate effortlessly with people from other countries and getting to know more about their cultures, but also for my interest towards the structure of every language itself. Since the beginning of my high school years I have been studying and absorbing grammar and literature of Ancient Greek and Latin. This allowed me to improve my grammar basis and made my passion for it grow stronger. Meanwhile, I was carrying out the study of English, French and Spanish, on my own.
Later on, those languages have been the center of my studies at the University of Turin. After graduating in 2016 in Linguistic and Cultural Mediation, I decided to move to Boston, United States, in order to experience what speaking another language really means and to know more about a new culture. During my stay, not only had I the possibility to reach an advanced level of English, but I also improved my Spanish and, to a lower extent, my French, having the possibility of practicing them daily. In August 2017, I moved to Spain, where I attended a Masters in Intercultural Communication, Translation and Interpreting in Public Services offered by the University of Alcalá (Madrid).
Throughout my education I had the possibility to deepen my knowledge of the mentioned languages, to learn how to translate and interpret and I had the chance to learn more about linguistics as well. I am now fully fluent in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian.
I am a translator at core and I have been a translator intern for CIDA’ archives in Alcalá de Henares, in Spain, using different language combinations. In 2018, I moved to Portugal, where I have been working for Accenture as a Business Analyst. Meanwhile, I have been translating for YOKO Translate and for WonderWords and I have been working as a translator for private clients. I have also been teaching English for 8Belts, a Spanish company which base its courses on the e-learning. Moreover, I have autonomous students who mainly want to learn Italian, English or Spanish.
I learnt myself four languages my own way, giving importance to the grammar, but focussing also on other aspects which are usually a bit underrated, such as vocabulary and listening. I have myself created games and teaching strategies to help my students get better results, although the method is adaptable to every specific situation.
For teaching, I use some manuals depending on the level of the student, but also personal material I have been collected during the years or created. My method is a mix of standard and original learning strategies and I hope you'll have the chance to join my course and take advantage of them.
I hope my skills, motivation and commitment make me the right teacher for you.
If you need any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to hearing back from you. Thank you for your time and thoughtful consideration.
Best Regards,
Giulia Genovese

My name is Laia, and I am an infant and primary school teacher, specialized in additional languages. This year I have finished my second degree in Early Childhood Education. Previously, I had completed my degree in Primary Education in English. This last year I have combined my studies with a job in the reception classroom of a school. My main aim was to teach newly arrived pupils the official languages of my country and helping them to adapt to their new environment.
In addition, I have been an English teacher and monitor with students of different ages. I can adapt to my students, looking for the best way to individualize their learning.
Furthermore, I did the 120 hours course with TEFL this summer as I decided to delve more deeply into teaching English as a foreign language to help my students in a better way.
I would describe my classes as dynamic and entertaining. The aim is that during the first class we get to know each other so we can find out what your needs and goals are.
For my classes, I will use different materials that I used in my previous jobs, for example, games, role plays, flashcards, grammar summaries, or sample exams.
Finally, I would like to talk about my hobbies so that you can get to know me a little better. I am passionate about art and sea sports. I love watching films and series of any kind of genre. I also enjoy reading, especially when it is a mystery or action.

Dear Student,
I am Daniela, a qualified teacher of Bulgarian as a foreign language.
I will be delighted to help you learn Bulgarian. I am originally from Sofia, Bulgaria. I am passionate about languages; I am fluent in English and Spanish, Czech and Slovenian. I have helped many foreigners now living in Bulgaria to better understand and speak with confidence in their social environment. I am always interested in their motivation to learn Bulgarian and I adapt myself completely to the needs and tastes of each student. My teaching style is very communicative, I teach through dialogues, and real situations so my students start speaking from the very first lesson. I make my classes fun and enjoyable for all students, as I believe it is very important that the student enjoys learning, that they look forward to the next class. We often talk about culture, traditions, history and all kinds of topics that interest the student and in this way, progress is much more natural and faster.
Many thanks.
Best regards, Daniela

Dani is a wonderful teacher. I'm a native Bulgarian speaker with a non-Bulgarian speaking son. For years I have tried to motivate him to learn from me, with minimal success, unfortunately. Since we started lessons with Dani, my son is now able to understand and engage in basic conversational exchanges; and this is only after seven lessons! Dani comes prepared to the lessons, but is flexible and able to change lesson plans on the spot, based on what the interests of the student may be that day. Some days my son wants to talk about sports cars, others he likes to talk about sports. Dani takes his lead and engages him in the conversation topic of his choice, while remaining focused on the large picture of teaching a language; grammar rules, conjugation, prepositions, sentence construction and much, much more!

Hello everyone and a big warm welcome to all the fellow language learners,
My name is Katerina, I’m a native Russian speaker and a foreign language teacher from St Petersburg, Russia. I’ve always been addicted to learning foreign languages, be it English, German, Spanish, Turkish or Arabic, so turning my passion into my job was just a matter of time. I have a Master’s degree in linguistics which taught me to understand the way the mechanism of a language works and thus to help my students see the logics behind the grammar rules. Being a constant language learner enables me to see the process from both sides and to predict the difficulties my students might face. The fact that I’m not a native speaker of English or German means I’ve been through exactly the same language-learning journey you’re about to take, and thanks to my personal experience as a student, I can make this road smooth for you.
I've had students of all ages, from pre-school kids to senior generation, and I feel comfortable working with both beginners and those who are eager to take their learning process to a new level. In my classes I encourage you to talk in the language we’re studying as much as possible, putting every single bit of knowledge into practice right away. If you’re a Russian-learner, I’d be glad to prove it to you that you can absolutely nail my mother-tongue - and yes, you’ll be able to make a small talk in Russian by the end of the first class even if you’re an absolute beginner! We’ll be focusing on the topics that are most relevant to your goals, while discovering the language and getting to know more about the culture of people who speak it.
I offer a short free trial class, for us to give each other a smile and discuss our teaching pattern, in order to ajust it to your goals and make our lessons the bee's knees :) See you soon!

My experience with Melanie has been very positive, Melanie is a very qualified teacher and you can tell that from the beginning: very professional, very good methodology, diversity in material, etc. A real one on one experience as she focused together with learning of language in identification and correction of student weaknesses. My kid is engaged with her classes as he says are useful and fun, his progress in learning German has been noticed by all. I also like her flexibility to have classes during the weekends, that is a great emergency door. I am happy !! Highly recommended!!!

I am a certified English/Arabic/French/Italian teacher with two degrees in Interpreting and Translation and three Cambridge Teacher Trainings (TEFL, TESOL, CELTA). I am currently enrolled in the DELTA program (Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) which is the highest English teacher training worldwide recognized.
At the beginning of my classes, it is important to evaluate students' needs and aims and in order to do that, I will send a "needs' analysis" so that I can better help you with your learning.
I mainly use Zoom as teaching platform because I think it is much better than Skype or Microsoft Teams because it allows a much better student-teacher interaction pattern.
According to Steven Krashen, one of the most renown linguist and education experts: "The best methods are therefore those that supply 'comprehensible input' in low anxiety situations, containing messages that students really want to hear. These methods do not force early production in the second language but allow students to produce when they are 'ready', recognizing that improvement comes from supplying communicative and comprehensible input, and not from forcing and correcting production".
Personally, I think that this is the right approach to teach because as a teacher we need to create a safe environment for our students, lower their effective filter so they can perform at their best potential.
I realized after years of experience as a languages student and teacher that several countries not just my country (Italy) have been using a teaching methodology which is obsolete and not suitable for students' needs and aims. The 80-20 rule is the sure way to achieve this goal. Can you guess which part is the student's one? The 80 of course, you are the one who needs to improve, to talk and learn. We as teachers we are doing whatever it takes to guide you through the process.
During my experience as a teacher I worked with teenagers, university students and adults. I had the pleasure to teach Arabic to university students who needed further assistance for their exams. I taught to adults’ businessmen who needed to learn the basis of Arabic because of their work. I taught French and English to teenagers and university students that needed further help with their exams or simply to improve their listening and speaking skills. I have also experience in teaching Business English.
