I am a mother tongue because I was born in England and I have been living in Italy for many years so I am bilingual. I am certified for teaching... English to speakers of other languages (CELTA) and I have been teaching adults of different levels A1 to C1 for almost 10 years. My lessons are tailor-made for the needs of the students and I use authentic materials like newspapers, magazines, songs, videos, and coursebooks to improve the skills needed for communicating in English (reading, speaking, listening, and writing). I attended a Foreign Language High School in Italy and passed the first year at the University (foreign languages and literatures) in... Udine, Italy. I worked in the retail and hospitality industry in the past, assisting guests from all over the world, talking with them in Italian, English, German and sometimes French. I managed an after-school program for children (elementary and middle school) with a friend, and I taught them how to improve their knowledge of English and German language. I spent a year in Ireland, first working as an au pair and then as an employee at a corporation, dealing with the American and German markets. I have recently got a Cambridge English certificate (C2 level) and a certificate for teaching online from Arizona State University. I am currently studying to get a German certificate (C1 level). I offer English tailor- made lessons for everyone, regardless of age: students and employees, housewives and workers. Depending on your needs, I can teach you the language starting with the basics, explaining topics which are difficult for you to understand, and having conversations, so as to have a more lively way to communicate. I like to enrich my classes not only through textbooks, but also through elements taken from everyday life such as films, newspapers, books, and a good dose of creativity. I am happy and proud to have helped many students to pass their foreign languages exams and to improve their grades, and to be still in touch with some of them. I would like to be of use to all those who think that learning a foreign language is one more step towards improvement. Read more

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree but most of my experiences have been in the English as a Second Language (ESL) field. I would like to think of... my method as what is known as the communicative method. Essentially I speak AND conduct ALL my lessons in English: no translations. However I am willing to use instruction in simple terms as well as with examples. If the lesson requires that I deal with ABSOLUTE beginners, seeing as I am in Italy, then I may use Italian to coax my students along. Because of the COVID-19 epidemic, I have had to modify my lessons but I still rely on VISUAL aids, especially for absolute beginners. In any case, I do use pictures for setting up a lesson point, as a means of introducing something. When students have me, they can be assured of someone who is patient and accepts ANY kind of query [or else why invest in a language lesson]. I try to keep the environment as light as possible, owning to the fact that most students have the pressure to succeed (if it is to pass an exam with distinction) as well as, in a sense, speaking or using a language that is not one's own. For this, I try to keep the lesson environment as informal as possible to relax students nervous or uncertain as it is. I also believe it important to meet the students needs. What I do is no different to any other customer, whether it is in a restaurant, to a service like language instruction. It is always my hope the student comes away with having learned something. Looking forward to meeting students soon! Read more
