My native language is Dutch, but I also speak French, (Swiss) German and English. I'm learning Spanish and Italian and I'm enjoying every frustrating bit of it. I'm a true bookworm and the books I love are very diverse. My absolute favourite genre is medical thrillers, with (of course!) legal thrillers a beloved runner up. Besides reading I also like to write. Every year I participate in NaNoWriMo and I kind of have the idea of participating in my target languages from now on. Who doesn't like a challenge, right? I have worked as a teacher in high school for Dutch and in adult education for Dutch and German. Since secondary school, I have been tutoring students in Dutch, English and German, and I have worked with refugees helping them deal with the legal challenges they encountered as well as with learning the Dutch language. At the moment I also work as a tutor at a Dutch university in the criminal law section, considering obtaining a PhD, and as a high school teacher (French language). Even though I can easily talk about almost anything, the point of language learning is to get you to speak. There are many different ways to get there; exercises, writing, acting out dialogues from your favourite books or movies, prepared presentation and unprepared speech… Whatever fits your learning style and what you feel comfortable with. I can easily adapt to your (language) learning needs and style. By learning other languages, I have also started looking at Dutch with different eyes, recognising the pitfalls learners may encounter. I am a certified translator by the German state for German and French, which includes a certified C1-level in English. I am a french citizen... living in Germany for about 15 years now, and master French as well as German as a native speaker. I let you speak and write the language... yourself as much as possible so that your active vocabulary grows quickly. After all, active vocabulary is much better than passive vocabulary! Each class lasts 45-50 minutes and consists of three parts: homework discussion (vocabulary and the grammar of the previous class), new grammar (I explain, give examples and let you apply the new grammar) and a text (pronunciation, new words, translation; I ask you questions about the text so you learn to speak Dutch).
