I am a PhD student in English Applied Linguistics, still in process, at an Austrian university, who lives in Spain. My Master’s degree is in... English as a Second Language and my BA degree and high school diploma are from the USA. Besides, my academic degrees, I have obtained teaching certificates like 120 hour TEFL Certificate, Certificate in Business English (CTBE) and Certificate in Teaching English to Young Learners (CTEYL). With aforementioned qualifications and long experience in teaching, I find myself qualified to an online teaching position. Considering my teaching philosophy, I believe that being an ESL instructor is an admirable and at the same time inspiring job. The instructors should share all their knowledge and experience with their students; show them how to be equipped with necessary implements for communication. The other important responsibility of ESL instructors is creating a welcoming and tranquil classroom atmosphere, free from any stress, to provide the students the opportunity to use the available resources in the best possible way and to produce what they are expected in the new language. For ESL instructors, like all other academic positions, there is always room for perfection. Consequently, I attempt to further my professional knowledge through attending specialized international workshops and conferences, doing relevant scientific research as well as taking additional courses about technological innovations in ESL teaching. People assume that learning a foreign language is a simple means to an end: getting a promotion, passing an exam, finding a job... Don't get me... wrong, it is possible to see things from this perspective, but learning can also be a way to get out of one's own mental schemes and comfort zone: making an effort to think in another language is also a way to put oneself at stake, and - of course - to grow as an individual. All this does not necessarily mean something tiring or unpleasant: as a matter of fact, during my years of university teaching, I have, in my turn, learned that studying a language can be a fun, stimulating, and - why not? - enjoyable process. Studying doesn't necessarily have to limit to weighty tomes of grammar, but the passions and interests of the learner play an equally important role; in this sense sky's limit, thanks to the articles available on the web, combined with creativity. At the same time, I strongly believe in the playful aspect of the learning process, as supported, moreover, by extensive literature. A few words about me: I started giving private lessons when I was still in high school (linguistic, of course) and since then I have never stopped. Aside from my office work, I have taught at the University of Naples "Parthenope" and currently have two courses at the University of Sannio. In addition to the language diploma, I have a four-year degree in "Foreign Languages and Literatures" from the Orientale University in Naples, a Master's degree in "American Studies" from the University of Turin and a PhD in "Languages and Specialised Terminologies" from the University of Naples "Parthenope".
