I've been teaching English for more than three years now. I taught students from zero knowledge to advance level. I know the feeling of learning... a language that is not your own because I also learned another one and that is Japanese. And mind you, it's not easy, that's true but with constant practice and perseverance, I was able to do it. So, I don't see any reasons why you can't. I believe in John Dewey's theory which states that human beings learn through hands-on approach. And what's the best way to apply this---is by doing it.
