I have been employed at the Adult College of Barking & Dagenham as a tutor since March 2022; I teach English for Every day (EFE) to pre-entry level learners, and hold speaking lessons for the Conversation Club for entry-level students. I also assist my manager during the assessments and lead classroom-based workshops focussed on creativity.
In September I will also start teaching ESOL to higher level students.
My aim as a teacher goes beyond the learning objectives: I am particularly interested in empowering the students, promoting cultural collaboration and team work to enhance their progression, thereby enabling them to become active players in their local community, finding meaningful work and tackling isolation.
I often show videos and/or documentaries that report the current situation of particular countries suffering the impact of climate change, war and famine, thereby drawing the attention to a subject that involves the vast majority of the students in the classroom and use it to start conversations on what can be done in our everyday life to bring about change and provoke further self-awareness.
Toward the end of the course, when the objectives have been met, I suggest students to download and use specific applications to continue practise their skills and further progress through their individual efforts.
Throughout the month of August 2021, I taught art classes to young disadvantaged children in Peckham Rye and, following the success of this project, I was recently invited to take part in a new project for the same local community, this time for children aged between 11- and 15-year-old which is currently on its second (of 6) term.
In addition to this, I have 10 years of experience supporting students from 7-year-old all the way through to 19-year-old, as a private childminder, as a teacher assistant for Primary and Secondary Schools in the South East London area and as a private online tutor teaching Italian (using Zoom and Skype).
I also have been training more senior colleagues and clients on how to use online platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Applications such as PowerPoint.
In addition to this, I have 1:1 experience supporting children in Primary and Secondary School who have neurodiverse needs including autism and AD(H)D.
