Hi, I am Anna! I am a language lover and a freelance language teacher.
EDUCATION:
I have a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in foreign languages. I am a native speaker of Italian, but I also speak four languages: English, German, French and Russian. I really know how much effort you need to put in learning a new language!
I am also a CELTA certified teacher. CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) is an internationally recognised certificate issued by the University of Cambridge that trains teachers to teach English as a foreign or as a second language.
EXPERIENCE:
I have been teaching languages for six years now - more specifically five years in-person and one year online - to students of different backgrounds. Due to the pandemic situation, I have moved online and have started teaching Italian as a self-employed tutor.
WHAT TYPES OF LESSONS DO I OFFER?
I offer both language (grammar and vocabulary) and skills lessons (reading, listening, speaking and writing) to individual students or small groups. I teach at different language levels: to students starting from scratch, to learners with some knowledge of the language or to advanced students in need of perfecting their skills. The sessions are held entirely online through Skype or Zoom.
In my lessons you will find:
• Tailor-made sessions for your needs
• Interesting and engaging material and topics
• Specific tips and tricks to better your language knowledge
• Tons of opportunities to practice the language
• Flexibility in terms of lesson scheduling
• Friendly and relaxing atmosphere
TEACHING METHODS
Did you know that the way students feel during a language lesson is extremely important? As a matter of fact, if students feel overwhelmed or – worst of all – afraid, the learning process will be hindered. I consider, therefore, to be fundamental to create a safe and friendly environment for students to feel free of experimenting with the language, and not be afraid of making mistakes, which are a natural part of the learning process.
My lessons are tailor-made and always student-centred. I offer a trial lessons before starting each course and this gives me the chance of asking potential students what are their needs in terms of language skills and abilities. Their answers are the starting point from which I devise my lessons plans and organise the contents of each language session.
As regards language (grammar and vocabulary) and skills lessons (reading, listening, speaking and writing) my motto is: ‘the teacher should be a guide for their students and not a lecturer’. This means that the tutor helps students to discover the language by themselves, starting by what they already know and by giving them some hints throughout the lesson. How do I do that? Each lessons starts with a text either designed for learning purposes or adapted from authentic material for native speakers. After having read the text, students identify and analyse the main topic of the lesson and then proceed to exercise it. At the end of each session, there is usually a short speaking activity so that students have the opportunity of developing their speaking skills.
