I speak five languages, my mother tongue, Italian, and then English, German, French and Modern Greek. I practice them very often, as I mostly work as a tour guide and I have lots of friends abroad.
Trying to reach as soon as possible a good level of proficiency and production in a foreign language means you need to focus, right from the start, on practicing it, learning a few simple expressions by heart and then trying, with the help of a teacher, to create new similar structures imitating the ones you already know. This is the best method, the quickest way to feel comfortable with a language. Only later, once you have assimilated the first basic elements, the teacher will help you memorize the language mechanisms using grammar rules and comparisons with other languages and introducing elements of linguistic evolution.
Allora, siete pronti? Dann fangen wir an!
