• Acted as office manager by hiring, training, and managing library student employees remotely for Fall 2020. Coordinated with the Student Success and Retention Counselor to rehire five Access Services Assistants, created a shift schedule, submitted payroll, and updated employees with documentation I wrote for new policies, procedures, and workflows. During closure, I: enrolled in courses for student staff development, supervision, and management; revised student employee training documentation; designed a rubric of work expectations; and planned remote team building activities.
• Managed circulation and interlibrary loan services remotely. Coordinated with Campus Services to give students and staff members access to laptops. Requested e-journal articles from lending libraries on behalf of students and faculty.
• Supported student success by suggesting and creating a library webpage. The page was designed to help students adjust to online learning during the pandemic by including resources for online learning, for self-care, for locating reliable COVID-19 information, and for state benefits and other community resources.
• Performed the following office administrator duties remotely: maintained the library schedule; monitored the library’s email accounts and voicemail; recorded staff meeting notes; ordered supplies in preparation for building reopening.

• Served as a point person for library and membership policies and procedures. One of three library workers given the ability to activate and deactivate membership cards to enter the library.
• Promoted from part-time library assistant. Trained all new part-time library assistants and some volunteers.
• Assisted with the transition between library management system softwares (Millennium ILS and Sierra ILS) by testing, revising library procedures documentation, and retraining staff for optimal utilization.
• Managed the processing, data entry, and records maintenance of nearly 300 magazine titles with impeccable efficiency and accuracy. Created and analyzed reports as a member of Technical Services.
• Acted as liaison between the library and vendors by claiming incomplete orders and damaged items. Regularly informed library staff and library users of magazine publishing changes (see photo of Delayed Issue Notice I suggested and designed below). Contacted printer/copier vendor for repairs. Responsible for purchasing and replenishing all library office supplies.
• Corresponded with homebound patrons as manager of the Outreach program via phone calls, email, and postal mail. Mailed them book requests.
• Managed the library’s material withdrawal process. Coordinated with librarians removing the item records from the catalog, library assistants physically preparing the materials, the company purchasing withdrawn materials, and the shipping company.
• Independently planned, coordinated, supervised, and documented the implementation of an annual magazine sale from scratch, allowing the library to profit from materials that are regularly discarded after being withdrawn from the collection (see link below for my promotional blog post and photo of sale display).
• Oversaw information desks for an average of five hours per workday. Adjusted priorities as needed to complete project tasks on time. See “Library Assistant” description below for more details about desk duty.

• Addressed library users’ needs while overseeing the information desks. Politely communicated to patrons calling that in-person patrons were prioritized and I would return to serve them in a timely manner. Transferred calls and messages to members of other staff departments. Greeted first-time guests and answered questions about the institute, giving a short tour if staffing allowed.
• Patiently assisted library users (a predominantly older demographic at Mechanics’ Institute) with IT questions, troubleshooting computers, copiers, scanners, and printers. Operated and balanced the cash register. Routed complex problems to the IT department.
• Diplomatically resolved issues regarding patrons’ library accounts, collecting and waiving fines according to library policy. Accurately updated patrons’ library records when processing membership renewals. Processed and issued daily and weekly visitor passes.
• Preferred by the Head of Circulation to check shelves for overdue, billed, and reserved materials due to my attention to detail.
