Online Tutor
Self-employed
2018-Present
Derby, United Kingdom
• Throughout this role, I have been able to assist a number of university undergraduate students. My duties involve aiding my students in their exam preparation and in structuring their assessed essays. I also help my students to comprehend complex and sophisticated philosophical and theological concepts.
• Furthermore, I am responsible for preparing a number of university students for their IELTS exams. I consequently prepare a vast array of listening, reading, writing and speaking exam material that is both covered during the lesson and is assigned to my students as homework.
• This multifaceted role has enhanced my capacity to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of my students. In turn, this has allowed to me to determine the best course of action to take in order to ensure that my students begin to excel in their respective academic fields. Accordingly, this position has enhanced my ability to empathise with the requirements of my students and has also allowed me to see the value of ensuring that I present the information in an easily understandable format.
English Teacher
My English School
February 2019-September 2019
Busto Arsizio, Italy
• Before taking this position, I completed a TEFL Essentials course, for which I received a Distinction. This position enabled me to gain a number of transferable skills. Living abroad in a primarily non-English speaking country has equipped me with an increased set of communication skills, the benefit of which I have seen both inside and outside of the classroom. I was therefore able to respond to my surroundings in a culturally sensitive manner.
• Throughout this role, I was responsible for planning each of my lessons. Whilst I was thoroughly prepared for each class, I nevertheless had to react to certain unforeseen issues (such as students not arriving on time), meaning that I had to adapt my lesson plan as the lesson progressed. This position therefore greatly improved my time management skills.
• I also prepared university students for their IELTS exams. Accordingly, I prepared a vast range of different listening, reading, writing and speaking exercises for my lessons. That my approach was successful is asserted by the fact that all of my students passed their IELTS exams and were offered positions at universities across the Europe. Furthermore, many of my teaching methods have now been applied to other schools throughout Italy that are managed by the same company.
• Furthermore, I was made responsible for teaching English to employees of a global company. As I taught employees who held positions of prominence within the company, I had to adapt the teaching material in order to suit their need of learning English in order to execute business transactions.
Philosophy Workshop Teacher
Henry Whipple Primary School
September 2015-December 2015
Nottingham, United Kingdom
• During this project, I hosted a series of philosophical enquiry workshops aimed at primary school students. Such projects were intended to encourage the students to engage with multiple philosophical discourses.
• In order to keep the students engaged with the subject matter, I found that I had to be able to adapt my presentations methods. Consequently, this role highlighted the importance of finding the right method by which to present the information to the students.
• Furthermore, the added diversity to my presentation style allowed me to become a more creative individual.
• Moreover, along with enhancing my ability to evaluate the learning capabilities of each individual student and therefore allowing me to plan my lessons accordingly. This placement also enhanced my communication skills.
Cover Assistant
The Ecclesbourne School
September 2013-September 2014
Derby, United Kingdom
• My responsibilities throughout this position involved supervising a lesson when a permanent member of staff was absent. However, when lessons were taken by the relevant teacher, my role then became that of a teaching assistant.
• A great deal of my energy and time was spent working with students with either physical disabilities or special educational needs. A vital element of my role was to help the students to understand the subject matter discussed in each lesson.
• Such a role highlighted to me the importance of being able to identify the different needs of each student. Consequently, this role allowed me to become more flexible, as it became evident that my duties required me to be able to adapt my methods for different situations and subjects.
